Cantina New Hire Project: Stutter App
My new hire project at Cantina was to create, “an app to change the world.” I chose to create an app experience that helps stutterers manage their stutter and practice stutter techniques. Here’s the brief I put together for my presentation:
What? “Stutter App” a multi dimensional app that helps users who stutter practice different speech techniques, watch educational videos, read the latest articles, connect to podcasts and more.
Why? People who stutter are often embarrassed by the fact that they stutter, and wish to conceal that fact however possible. “Stutter App” reinforces healthy behavior to live with a stutter, and not conceal it. By using current technologies like push notifications and voice recorders, “Stutter App” continuously reinforces healthy stutter management.
How? “Stutter App” connects to the users calendar to send real-time push notifications when necessary. It also connects to the calendar to add events. The app connects to the mobile device’s microphone and camera when the user is practicing various speech techniques. The app will connect with the “Podcast” app for related Podcasts and the “Youtube” app for related videos.
Who? More than 70 million people worldwide stutter. 3 million of those are Americans. As someone who has a mild stutter, I know for a fact that I would greatly benefit from “Stutter App.” The only way to combat a stutter is to continuously practice speech techniques.
